How we research and update our articles

Chimo writes about money people are owed: class-action settlements, unclaimed property held by states, and the fees and scams that sit around both. Getting a deadline or an eligibility rule wrong here costs a reader real money, so this page sets out how our articles are produced and what you can expect from them.

1. Where the facts come from

Settlement articles are researched from the primary documents: the settlement agreement, the long-form notice, the claim form and the court's orders, as published by the settlement administrator or the court. Unclaimed-property articles draw on the state programs' own records and rules. Where we cite a figure such as a payout estimate or a deadline, it comes from one of those sources, and the article says which.

2. How articles are produced

Some of our articles are produced with the help of AI tools. Those articles carry the byline Chimo Staff rather than a person's name. We do not invent authors, and we do not attribute an article to a person who did not write it. Every article, however it was drafted, is checked by a person before it is published.

3. Bylines and reviews

An article may show Written by, Reviewed by, both, or neither. A reviewer is named when someone other than the writer has checked an article that makes eligibility or legal claims. Each name links to a page describing who that person or team is. Where no byline is shown, the article is published by Chimo as an organization.

4. Dates and updates

Every article shows the date it was published. When an article is substantively changed, it also shows the date it was updated. Settlement terms and deadlines change, and where a settlement has closed or been extended we update the article or say that it has closed. Small edits such as typographical fixes do not change the updated date.

5. Corrections

If you believe something we have published is wrong, email support@chimo.ai with the article's address and what you think is incorrect. We check every report against the source documents and correct the article where it is wrong.

6. What our articles are not

Our articles are general information. They are not legal, tax or financial advice, and reading one does not create any relationship between you and Chimo beyond our Terms of Service. Whether you are eligible for a particular settlement or unclaimed-property claim depends on the rules of that program, which we link to wherever we can.

7. Advertising and our own products

Chimo is a paid service and our articles may promote it. Anything that promotes Chimo's own products is shown as such. If an article ever carries third-party advertising, it is labelled as advertising and has no influence on what the article says.
